2020 convention info; apply for AAJA programs

AAJA’s 2020 national convention will be July 29 – Aug. 1 at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C. — registration and other info will be announced in the coming months. If you’ve never been to a convention before, it’s a great opportunity to learn, network and be inspired! And given that it’s just down I-95, we hope to see a big turnout from our chapter this year. (We’re working on some chapter-specific scholarships and travel plans, so look for that soon, too.)

If you have an idea for a convention speaker, panel, breakout session, etc., you can submit those ideas using this form until Feb. 16.

Additionally, applications are now open for JCamp, Voices and ELP (Executive Leadership Program):

  • JCamp is a free summer journalism workshop for high school students. JCamp 2020 will be hosted by Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., July 5-10. The deadline to apply is Sunday, March 29.
  • Voices is an all-expenses-paid fellowship for college students. Students will work on a long-form, in-depth news project over the course of the summer, with remote summer-long training and project work that begins in May and culminating in-person in D.C. from July 26 – Aug. 2, when they will present their project at the national convention. The deadline to apply is Sunday, March 22. Philly chapter member Anh Nguyen participated in Voices last year and can tell you all about it!
  • ELP is a leadership workshop for professional journalists with at least several years of experience. ELP 2020 will be held at ABC News in New York City from April 6-10. Tuition is $1,275 for AAJA members ($2,000 for non-members), and participants are responsible for travel and lodging expenses. Applications are due by February 16, 2020.
