No full-time job? No problem. At next month’s AAJA Philly event, learn from AAJA members and other local journalists who are making a living freelancing. Their stories, videos and photos have been published in outlets like The New York Times, Reuters, The Washington Post, NPR, Philadelphia Magazine, and WHYY. In this panel discussion, we’ll go over how to get your start, how to pitch and how to make sure you get paid. Coffee and donuts will be served.

Panelists/Moderators:


Andrew Thompson is a journalist whose work has appeared in the Awl, the Baffler, Philadelphia Magazine and City Paper. He is a graduate of Temple University and lives in South Philadelphia. He enjoys soda water.

Aidan Un is a freelance film-maker and
photographer based in West Philadelphia. He’s worked with youth poets, immigration activists, local musicians, artist-hackers, community radio advocates, Brazilian dancers, student unions, Cambodian bakers, tech start-ups, art educators, community development corporations, and the occasional scrimshaw collector. He finds joy in collaboration and sees making images as a way to discover what’s always been there.
