UPDATED: July 16 General Motors Mixer

Reminder: Please join us for a mixer with General Motors at its Main Street in Motion auto show at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, on Saturday, July 16! GM is a big sponsor of the AAJA national convention in Detroit and would like to meet our members.
Main Street in Motion GM Mixer
When:
1:00-3:30 p.m., Saturday, July 16
Why Attend?:
* Have fun and test-drive GM and its competitors’ cars. That’s right, you can actually test-drive these cars!
* Win a raffle for a free registration to the AAJA National Convention in Detroit from Aug. 10-13!
(Note: If you already registered for the convention and you win the raffle, AAJA National will reimburse you for the full amount of your registration cost.
Or, you may want to transfer/sell your registration to someone else who has not registered yet and wants to go to the convention. This could be beneficial to the other member because registration costs are now higher, and by purchasing the registration from you, that other person will be paying a lower price than he/she would be able to get at this point. But, please note: In this case, there will also be a $25 transfer fee, payable to AAJA National.)
* Mingle with AAJA-Philly members and representatives of GM. GM will be providing light snacks and refreshments (chips and dips, cookies and brownies, fresh fruit, soft drinks and bottled water).
* There will also be kid-friendly activities at the auto show. This is open to AAJA members, friends, and family members.

Program Logistics:
1-1:30 p.m. Registration
. This event is free and open to the public, including AAJA members. Once you show up, you will go to the main registration tent (where members of the public will also be registering). You can get to the front of the line if you see a GM representative with an AAJA/media sign (just tell them who you are). Everyone needs to register with their driver’s license. This is just so they have your info in case you want to test-drive a car. You need to be 18 to test-drive the cars. (If you don’t have your driver’s license with you, you will still need to register with some basic info about yourself – such as name and address. This info will NOT be used for future marketing purposes).

After you complete your computer registration, you will enter the Main Street in Motion area. You will see the info booth in front of you. Turn left and go to the white tent that will be marked AAJA/Media/Special Events.

1:35 – 2 p.m.: Formal program – GM representatives and I will give some welcome remarks, followed by remarks by GM about the auto show, its cars (including a walk-around of one nearby car, the Cruze ECO), and various cars you can test-drive.
2 p.m.: Raffle of free AAJA National convention registration.
2-3:30 p.m.: Mixer continues, people can test-drive cars, enjoy refreshments, etc.

(The actual auto show is from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. You are welcome to arrive earlier or stay later. Just make sure you get to the media tent between 1-1:30 p.m.!)
(FYI — National Association of Black Journalists will be having a mixer with GM in the same media tent from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.)

Where: Parking lot, Citizens Bank Park, South Philadelphia (parking is free)
If you’re driving, enter through 10th St. off of Packer Avenue. Signage will then direct you to park in the general public area.
(See the map below, which gives you a general idea of where things are located in relation to the ballpark.)

Map of Main Street in Motion (G is parking area. The “A” is the main registration tent. The “B” is the info booth. Our media tent is the white rectangle just above the “C” Main Street Lounge.)
If you’re not driving, the ballpark is easily accessed on the Broad Street subway line.
Dress: Casual (shorts okay). If you plan on test-driving cars, it’s recommended that you wear sneakers.

RSVP: If you haven’t yet RSVPed to me for this event yet, please RSVP at aajaphiladelphia@gmail.com. Let us know how many other people you will be bringing. (GM has asked that we have at least 15-20 people at the mixer. Friends and family members are absolutely welcome!)
Please RSVP by Tuesday, July 12.
